Put on an apron and learn the art of a real San Francisco treat. Enroll in sourdough bread ed with our latest offer: $45 for one starter bread workshop or a bagel-making class at Sour Flour Bakery. Whether you're new to baking or an aspiring pâtissier, after a class with Sour Flour founder Danny Gabriner and his staff, you'll be making your own sourdough starter or bagels at home in no time.
In the starter workshop, you will begin the fermentation of your starter, the base for your bread, by combining flour and water. After feeding your starter to build its activity, you'll learn to control it via time, temperature, hydration, expansion, and food. In the bagel workshop, you'll begin by mixing four simple ingredients: flour, starter, salt, and water. From there, you'll learn the science of bagel-making, developing the gluten using several techniques. Sharpening your hand skills, you'll put the "art" in artisan bread, shaping the dough into round bagel shapes. At long last, you'll get the lowdown on the boiling and baking process and send you on your way. With your newly earned bread ed cred, you'll be able to make your own bread at home. You know what they say: teach a man to bake, and you have fed him for a lifetime!
