The Queen Anne Hotel (1590 Sutter St., 1-800-227-3970) is an elegant, Victorian-style hotel that was built in 1889. In it its early history, it was the Mary Lake School for Girls, until it closed in 1896 and the building was sold. Headmistress Mary Lake was devastated, and it's said that guests staying in her former office (room 410) have felt her presence in the forms of cold spots, wispy apparitions, and mothering occurrences such as the feeling of being tucked in at night, having belongings picked off of the floor, etc.
