The name of Gallery of Jewels is not an unfamiliar one. Rather, it's one you should know. Opened 21 years ago, the gallery, a marketplace for artful jewelry, has had eight locations in its history. After closing its Cow Hollow location, the company just opened its newest store opened at 427 Post St. six weeks ago — two others are open in Noe Valley and Pacific Heights — in the hustle and bustle of Union Square.
Carrying 150 different designers across its three stores, some crossing over between them and others unique to each, Gallery of Jewels has created a strong community of local jewelry artists and customers. About half of its designers are local (San Francisco, Mill Valley, Oakland, etc.) while the rest are culled from across the nation. Most, though, are "local" somewhere: whether they're produced in Hackensack, NJ, or Santa Cruz, CA, the collection of baubles Gallery of Jewels has curated includes pieces produced by the designers themselves, many limited production if not one of a kind.
Be it an untreated leather wrap bracelet, eternity wedding band, modern silver cufflink, or black diamond hoop earrings, as cliché as it sounds, there's truly something for everyone here — everyone who wants something special and interesting. Prices range from $40 to $5,000, with plenty in the $200-$450 range.
Yesterday, I was treated to a tour of Gallery of Jewels' gorgeous new Union Square space, and I must say, it is heavenly! Come get a sneak peek of the shop, and then see it for yourself Saturday night: the grand opening party runs from 6 to 9 p.m., with libations, nibbles, live music, and jewels, of course, and you're invited!
