Fashionistas in the city are all pepped up to see Alexa Chung in person at the Madewell store (845 Market St., 415-644-0748) at the Westfield Centre tonight when she debuts her new collection for the brand — see details here — and for good reason: she's absolutely lovely and her new collection oozes alluring, British-girl-next-door style. But as you're snacking, sipping, shopping, and gawking at Alexa ce soir, don't forget to take a gander behind the turntable at DJ Tennessee Thomas, who'll be spinning tunes from 6 to 8 p.m. The British-born American musician is the founding member and drummer of indie rock ensemble The Like and daughter of Pete Thomas, drummer for Elvis Costello and the Attractions.
While unlike Chung she didn't design Madewell's latest collection, Tennessee is a style setter in her own right, and she gets my vote in the "Who's the REAL Madewell girl?" poll. Bouncing from DJ-ing gigs and performances alongside her bandmates to movie premieres and the front rows of Fashion Week, Tennessee has perfected a girlish-frock-with-saddle-shoes look that fits in oh-so well with Madewell's quirky-chic style staples. Let's take a look at some of Tennessee Thomas's greatest ensembles, and hear me now: I predict this girl's going everywhere fast!
